About the ASCHP

Root & Bloom Counselling operates under the professional standards of the Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners (ASCHP).

 

The ASCHP is a SAQA-recognised professional body for wellness counsellors in South Africa, focusing on holistic, supportive counselling that promotes personal well-being.

 

As a counsellor listed with the ASCHP, I adhere to their rules, ethical guidelines, and scope of practice to ensure professional, respectful, and ethical care for all clients.

What Clients Need to Know:

  • I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, or social worker. Wellness counselling is not psychotherapy. If you require clinical treatment for mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or medical intervention, I will refer you to the appropriate registered professionals.

  • Confidentiality is respected at all times, unless there is a legal or ethical duty to disclose, such as when someone is at risk of harm.

  • Your consent matters. Before we begin, you will be asked to complete and sign:

    • A Professional Services Agreement

    • A Client Agreement Form

    • If applicable, Parental Consent Forms for minors.

  • All your information is securely stored in compliance with POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act). No information will ever be shared without your written consent, except where required by law.

  • Display of credentials: My ASCHP membership certificate, qualification, and registration details are visible in the counselling space or available upon request.

  • Medical Aid: Wellness counselling services are not covered by medical aid schemes. Clients are responsible for payment of session fees.

Scope of Practice

As an ASCHP listed Specialist Wellness Counsellor, I work within the socialization space, meaning I support emotional and wellness needs and refer to other health professionals where necessary. My role is to support — not diagnose or treat — and to help clients navigate life’s challenges in a holistic, person-centred way.

Complaints and Ethics

Root & Bloom Counselling is committed to ethical, respectful, and safe practice. If you feel that I have not upheld the professional standards expected of me, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the ASCHP.
